Music is the only world language that can be talked by people all over the world without any barrier. Artists have been working so much in creating new ways or styles to present the idea, emotion most cases, of music. As to the question of how much can be understood, it has to depend on only the perception ability of the listener. This ability comes mostly from talent by birth, but learning and training after birth can still improve greatly the ability of music perception. What we are doing is trying all kinds of Signal Processing Techniques to help more people in better understanding the joyfulness of music.

To better explain the three basic factors of music: Rhythm, Melody, and Timbre, the main topics of our study includes: Onset Estimation, Rhythm Recognition, Multipitch Estimation, Instrument Classification, Song Structure Detection, Timbre modification, etc. Other interesting topics related with music are also considered, such as Nature Sound Musicalization, Acoustic Filed Capturing, Microphone Array Enhancement, CASA (Computational Acoustic Scenes Analysis), and BSS (Blind Sources Separation).
